When you know you have to cross the river
But you know in your heart that you aren’t yet ready
You realise that there is no state of absolute readiness
Only the willingness to give yourself over
To Him who has given His all for you.
He was never really ready for all that He had to face
In the garden He poured out His all
To the only person who recognized His trembling voice,
Looking down with compassion in His eyes.
You never really are ready for what is yet to come.
Tears and sweat and blood
Poured through the pores of his skin
As He humbled Himself before the Father
Who created everything through Him and for Him
Yet He wasn’t ready for all that was yet to come.
One thing He knew in His heart
And that He held onto with all His might and power –
To forget those things that are behind
And reaching forward to the things that are ahead
To press toward His high calling in the Father.
Thus setting an example to those yet to arrive at the crossing
To turn neither left nor right
But to only look straight ahead at His shining face
Unwavering, unrelenting and unfaltering
At the author and finisher of our faith.
